Many gamers believe that the father of survival horror is Resident Evil so that would make Alone in the Dark it’s Grandfather as the game pre-dates the original Resident Evil entry by four years. However while Resident Evil went on to spark a slew of sequels and spin-offs Alone in the Dark has sat quietly in the dark with 2 direct sequels early on and two failed attempts to revive the series in 2001 and 2008.
That brings us up to todays announcement of Alone in the Dark: Illumination which is running on the all new Unreal Engine 4. So if anything the visuals should be super creepy this time with developers Pure FPS able to use the engines dynamic lighting to great effect. Alone in the Dark: Illumination also marks the irst time the Alone in the Dark series is going online and co-op.
Ofcourse they want to entice you to pre-order Alone in the Dark: Illumination so right now on Steam if you chose to give up your $29.99 you’ll get player skins, weapon skins, an exclusive Steam Achievement and what I would assume is the big reason for anyone to pre-order the game access to the closed beta. I myself don’t fall into any of those categories they are targeting with the pre-order but maybe you are? Be sure to check out the trailer, it’s to bad they didn’t get this up in-time for Halloween this year, I think it would have been a nice surprise.
