Ed Key and David Kanaga’s exploration indie title is available on consoles for the first time from today.

London, UK – 29.10.2013 – Curve Studios and Independent Developer Ed Key are proud to announce the arrival of Proteus on PlayStation®3 (PS3™) and PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita). Available through PSN, Proteus releases today on the US store priced at $13.99 and tomorrow on the EU store priced at £9.99 and €12.99. The game will also be available in all regions at a 10% discount for the first two weeks of launch, including an additional 10% discount for PlayStation plus users.

Curve Digital, in association with Stray Dog Video, have produced a live action trailer for the game starring Ed Key, which can be found here. A gameplay trailer for the game can also be found here.

Released in January 2013 for the PC, Proteus is an open world exploration and discovery game designed by Ed Key with musical compositions from David Kanaga. With no specific objectives and goals, players explore a procedurally generated environment where every element of the world has its own musical signature to accompany it.

The Playstation versions have been developed by Curve Studios and published by indie publisher Curve Digital. The PS3 version allows users to generate islands by the current date, while the Vita versions include the ability to generate islands based on a player’s date and their current location. Players are also able to change and interact with the island in subtle ways using the games back touch pad.

Praise for the original Proteus:

“There’s a heart-stopping surprise or two for the inquisitive player to discover, and there are several moments of understated theatre that Key seems to guide you to with an invisible hand.” – Eurogamer

“It is magical. There’s a beauty in Proteus’ unmatched simplicity and it knows it.” – IGN

“In a way, its lack of progression – the absence of skill trees, difficulty levels and save points – works in its favour; you won’t dive back in to mop up the last few achievements, or to climb leaderboards, but simply because you want to play Proteus. Because you want to open your eyes and be up to your waist in seawater, to walk to shore and wander through fields that sing. And that’s an itch only Proteus can scratch.” – Edge

About Proteus

Proteus is a game about exploration and immersion in a dream-like island world where the soundtrack to your play is created by your surroundings. Played in first-person, the primary means of interaction is simply your presence in the world and how you observe it. The procedurally generated islands are home to creatures natural and imagined, tranquil valleys and ruins with magical properties.
