Razer Comms Bundles Talk. Chat. Play. For PC

Razer Comms is Razer’s entry into the crowded PC chat, VoIP and game launcher software arena. With Razer doing the hosting and the free price tag of the software it’s sure to entice gamer’s but what exactly does it do?

Razer Comms nugget of gold is voice and text communication with the ability to overlay information on-top of your game. If someone text messages you in-game, you see just that message, if someone is speaking or multiple people are speaking in your VoIP channel you’ll see the name of the players doing the talking all right on top of your game. So Razer Comms eliminates the need to alt-tab out of a game to text or speak with friends.

The key to Razer’s success with Razer Comms will be how it interacts with existing clients. Currently PC users have Steam, Origin, XFire, TeamSpeak, Ventrillo etc. The Steam and Origin platforms already fight to overlay your screen with notifications and chat along with XFire application. TeamSpeak and Ventrillo usually do the heavy lifting when it comes to voice communication for teams and clans but another popular option is Skype.

The problem is all these are separate programs and there’s no one client to rule them all. Razer just might be able to carve out a nice niche for itself if it keeps its program playing nice with everything else running on a gamer’s PC. Razer Community Feedback Pushes Free-to-Download VoIP & Chat Software Razer Comms to Open Beta

CARLSBAD, Calif. – April 23, 2013 – Razer™, the world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, software and systems, announced the open beta release of Razer Comms, an all-in-one communications solution for gamers.

Applying feedback gleaned from a community-based closed beta program, Razer Comms now combines VoIP client, instant messaging and IRC-chat features, allowing gamers the world over to connect with one service, free of charge. It also features an in-game overlay and seamlessly integrates with PC games, providing for uninterrupted gameplay while at the same time typing or talking with friends.

Razer Comms uses complex audio algorithms and an ultra-fast server infrastructure to deliver precise, crisp and clear communication with no timeouts or lag spikes, and it features advanced noise reduction and echo cancelation, a boon to millions of PC gamers worldwide.

Razer Comms originated as an internal project built on the spare “10 percent passion time” of a couple of engineers. After receiving many fan requests to make it widely available, Razer Comms has now become a fully supported project with a designated team working on it.

“As a gamer, it gets pretty annoying switching between multiple clients all the time when playing and talking with your friends,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. “Razer Comms offers a way around that challenge. By connecting gamers globally through a versatile software solution without any additional costs for the user, Razer Comms is a way for us to give back to our passionate fan base.”
