Explosive Action Rouge-Lite Tango Fiesta Is Headed To Steam!

Tango Fiesta has been hiding in the swamps, sharpening its knives, loading its weapons and doing all that cool stuff you do when you put on a kick ass 80’s action hero montage for what seems like forever. But now Tango Fiesta is back and it’s going to be playable at 2014’s EGX Rezzed.

Tango Fiesta was born out of 80’s passion and the 2013 Creative Assembly GameJam at EGX Rezzed. The 4 player co-operative shooter will feature rouge-lite elements, where enemies, levels and power-ups change for each play-through. Procedurally generated levels means you must look deep inside you and remember fear does not exist, pain does not exist and defeat does not exist it is you and three friends who must wage an epic war and destroy all that is in your way, there’s no shortcut to Newark here. Look for Tango Fiesta to drop on Steam for PC and Mac in Autumn 2014.

PRESS RELEASE

EGX Rezzed GameJam’s love child, Tango Fiesta playable at EGX Rezzed 2014!

Star in your own 80’s action movie with Tango Fiesta, coming soon to PC and Mac!

London – February 24th, 2014 – Indie developers Spilt Milk Studios have joined forces with publisher Mastertronic to announce Tango Fiesta making its way to EGX Rezzed this March.

Tango Fiesta is a 4-player co-operative shooter where the wacky, frenetic, comical, over-the-top, explosive, cheese-fuelled action of your favourite 80’s action movies becomes reality. Follow in the footsteps of an unnamed hero as you and three friends shoot, blast, brawl, dodge roll, upgrade, unlock and smash your way through the true stories behind all your favourite 80’s action classics in this endless and endlessly entertaining arcade action rogue-lite.

A rogue-lite you say? Why yes! Enemies, levels and power-ups change on every play-through. The core features are similar, but no two games are the same! Procedurally generated levels mean gameplay is always exciting, throwing fresh set pieces at the players so the fun never has to end.

Tango Fiesta was conceived at the Creative Assembly GameJam at EGX Rezzed 2013, where indie developers gathered for their love of jamming and to showcase their talent in a brutal 8 hours. The cycle of life has come around full circle as the game is set to show at the place it started, a year on. According to developers, Spilt Milk Studios, the stars were aligned for Tango Fiesta’sinception at GameJam.

Andrew Smith, Designer, Spilt Milk Studios elaborates, ‘We gathered on the show floor, claimed our spot and chose our play list for the jam in anticipation of the theme being chosen. There’s nothing quite as inspirational as ‘80s music; we got into the ‘zone’, sharpened our pencils, invoked the ‘Eye of the Tiger’ and perfected our ‘wax on, wax off’ routine, ready to travel through time, space and every other dimension.  When the theme fell out of the hat, it was the 1980s! It was meant to be. The rest is history.’

Andy Payne, CEO of Mastertronic added, ‘When the chance to work with the Spilt Milk team presented itself, we said dead or alive, we want to publishTango Fiesta. The fact that we actually started in games in the ‘80’s means that the whole thing just feels like one big, happy coincidence.  Mind you I have told Andrew Smith to shut up about the extended version, as we ain’t got time to bleed.’

‘It’s a real pleasure to see a success story like Tango Fiesta coming from last year’s Creative Assembly GameJam, and a great example of why we love to throw our support into these events,’ says Alex Wright-Manning, Talent Acquisition Manager at Creative Assembly. ‘The UK continues to produce world class games development talent in spades, and jams such as these allow these talented individuals the opportunity to work together towards a common goal, have some fun and maybe even create “the next big thing”. The sweet prizes and adulation by your peers is pretty good too!’

‘We can’t wait for this years’ CA GameJam, and would encourage any budding or existing developers to throw their hats into the ring at EGX Rezzed 2014.’

Tango Fiesta is set to come to PC and Mac in Autumn 2014, but be one of the world’s first fans to play it at EGX Rezzed in March. Live accompaniment by keytar guaranteed.
