The new album was commissioned by an enthusiastic fan of Mega Ran’s past works and was made available to the general public as a part of Ran’s hugely successful Kickstarter campaign that reached 300% funding late in 2014. In addition to unlocking the release of Mega Man Com: Mission, fans also reached stretch goals to produce two music videos, which includes the above “Love Remains feat. Bag of Tricks Cat,” which samples the Search Man stage fromMega Man 8  and incorporates footage from his 2014 Japan tour.

“I wanted to give the fans something special, because Lord knows they ask me about doing this ALL the time,” says Ran. “I was so overwhelmed by the support of the Kickstarter that I thought this was the least I could do, and I got in the studio to get the album ready for release.

Mega Ran (AKA Random) became widely
known after his 2007 album,  Mega Ran, which fused  Mega Man samples with his hip hop production and thoughtful lyrics. The album was a huge success, catching the attention to Capcom, who approved of Ran’s innovative approach to the source material and gave him a free license to sample Mega Man in his future works.

Mega Ran: Com Mission comes nearly four years since he tagged up with the Blue Bomber in 2011’s  Mega Man 10, which was released on CD and vinyl. Since that time, Mega Ran has toured the world and produced albums dedicated toFinal Fantasy VII, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many others.

About Mega Ran

When LA Weekly named Random aka Mega Ran one of “Five Artists Who Will Be Big in 2014,” Ran instantly took a photo of the article and made it his default picture on Facebook and Twitter.

“It wasn’t to brag,” he said, “It was to keep the pressure on myself… I wanted to see it every day.” Pressure is no new thing for a man who spent his days teaching middle school, his evenings grading papers, and his late nights rocking stages.

In the past five years, Mega Ran has managed to run through barriers like Mario with an invincibility star, from placing music in television and videogames to touring with acclaimed hip-hop stars and playing thousand-person festivals.

“I’m on a mission to help bring hip-hop into a new frontier,” he says. With an unprecedented licensing agreement with gaming giant CAPCOM, and constant appearances on a variety of sites like VICE, Nerdist, The Verge, The Source and Game Informer under his utility belt, the mission is fully underway.
