Magrunner, revisiting Lovecraft in screenshots

Developed on Unreal Engine 3 by 3AM (Frogwares), Magrunner is an action/reflexion game for PC, PlayStation Network, and Xbox LIVE based on the use of physics. Magrunner sends us to the near future, where technology will confront the Cthulhu Mythos as imagined by the renowned author of fantasy novels H. P. Lovecraft.

Through 6 new screenshots, Magrunner unveils today more of its environments, but also some of the characters and Lovecraftian creatures that will appear all along the story. In these screenshots, we can see Dax, the hero of the game, as well as Xander, one of the scientists responsible for the training program in which you’re participating. We can also see one of the terrifying “Dark Youngs”, one of the dangerous creatures of Cthulhu which you will have to face while the world around you slowly turns into nightmare. Keep your head cool, use common sense and utilize the powers of your Magrunner glove to overcome these monsters, and find a way out of the maze of vast, spectacular training rooms.

Dax, selected among the elite to participate in the Magrunner training program organized by MagTech Corporation, thought this was the chance of a lifetime. But reality will be prove to be quite different, as the program will quickly turns into a nightmare. A power outage and what feels like an earthquake isolates the participants from the rest of the world. Their only hope is to finish the course and attempt to contact the outside world. But the training rooms that separate them from the finish grow more and more menacing and a long descent into hell awaits them. At the end of the tunnel lies a frightening secret that could threaten all of humanity.
Today’s screenshots illustrate this transition: from the sleek, modern rooms and reassuring characters, to the darker and more troubling areas that follow, filled with terrifying creatures.
