Battlefield 3: Why there’s no Commander

DICE spoke with EuroGamer.net and says that they removed the Commander mode from Battlefield 2 out of Battlefield 3 because it was a flawed experience with a player that basically hid in a corner while looking at the map screen. DICE however now feels that squad leaders and gadgets to fill the role left behind by the missing Commander mode. They’ve also added gadgets that can be set up on the ground or on rooftops to scan and target vehicles and of course there’s always the UAV from Battlefield: Bad Company 2 that can be used to pin-point infantry and vehicles as well. We will severely miss the Commander mode and really wish it could have just been added without a soldier on the field and played Command and Conquer style but I guess we’ll have to wait for Battlefield 4 to get our Commander on!
