PlayStation Now Subscription Coming Soon To Your Visa Bill

Obviously hitting PlayStation 4 first, PlayStation Now is going to roll out subscriptions on January 13th 2014. Sony is touting 100+ PlayStation games which seems like a good start. The trailer shows off games like Uncharted, Spelunky, NBA 2k14, Ratchet and Clank Into The Nexus, X-Com: Enemy Within and God of War: Ascension. That’s a pretty nice cross-section of gaming genres to start off your streaming service with.

The meat and potatoes of the PlayStation Now service is going to be cost, it’s always been cost. The price of renting games on PlayStation Now up until this point has been absurd, Sony has reassured us time and time again this is beta so prices fluctuate and I hope they took the pawn shop approach of starting off high to settle at a happy medium. When PlayStation Now: The Subscription kicks off on January 13th 2014 you can either pay $19.99 per month or $44.99 for three months. That’s a better option than what’s currently out there for sure.

Of course you’re still going to need something like GameFly to be able to play every game that comes out but this is still an interesting proposition to that service. Where one you have to wait in a queue to get the game you really want or perform the dark art of queue shuffling the other has fewer games you want but they can be accessed right now. What we would really like to see is some PS+/PS Now discount action going on but considering this is the launch I’m hoping they have plans for that a bit later. What do you guys think, is the $19.99/$14.99 cost still a barrier to entry or is Sony finally heading in the right direction?
