Valve Goes Back To The Future, Latest Revision Of Steam Controller Has Analog Nub

I’m really liking this rapid public iteration process Valve is taking with their SteamOS both from a software and hardware perspective. @SteamDB on twitter is showing off a new picture of the Steam Controller that has removed the left side 4 buttons and replaced them with an analog stick.

I think this is a step in the right direction for Valve, the original controller design was very future thinking with it’s LCD touchpad and dual circular touchpads but obviously would have been very costly. The next Steam Controller iteration dropped the touch sensitive LCD and instead added plenty of buttons and this seemed like a step in the right direction. However looking at the standard console controllers of today it still looks very foreign and I would bet gamers would be hard pressed to even try and use it.

Finally we come to today’s reveal and I think this is the final iteration they should go with. Don’t get me wrong I would love a Special Edition with LCD screen but I know that’s probably never going to happen. The analog nub gives gamers a familiar jumping off point moving from todays standard PlayStation and Microsoft controller designs to the more radical world of Valves it’s a mouse, it’s a thumbstick it’s a touch pad design. Now everyone has a choice on how to play and choice is the best thing we could ask for.
