Xbox One June System Update Adding External Storage And Real Names

Microsoft is adding some big updates to the Xbox One with the June update release. The one everyone wants External Storage is going to be huge and alleviate a lot of the storage issues gamers have concerns over. The second big part of this update is the decoupling of Netflix, Hulu and other online streaming services from Xbox Live Gold.

External Storage on the Xbox One needs a minimum of USB 3.0 which makes sense given you want all the speed you can get when running games. The part of the June update that will have some gamers groaning in agony is the real name sharing but to their credit Microsoft seems to have thought this one through.

When you enable real name sharing on the Xbox One you’ll be able to choose who on your friends list can see you real name. If you really want to get out there you can even allow your real name to be shared with your friends of friends. However your followers who are not your friends will only have the option of knowing you by your gamertag.

Microsoft is also making some changes to SmartGlass which should make it smoother and also you’ll now get broadcast notifications for your friends who have started to stream via Twitch. Finally Microsoft is making SmartGlass a universal remote with the addition of One Guide and the ability to control your TV, Cable Box and AV Receiver within the app. Be sure to check out the complete video to see it all in action.
