Review: Battlefield 3 – Part 1 – Single Player Campaign

Battlefield 3

Why am I reviewing the single player campaign of Battlefield 3 as a stand alone product you ask, well because it just feels that way. Sure it’s got the same menus, interface, controls and glorious graphics but it just feels separate, so separate in-fact that the librarian of all your stats that is Battlelog doesn’t keep track of a damn thing for single player. All we get on the PC is just a giant “Launch Campaign” button, no time played, no kills, no silent takes downs, no bullets fired and definitely no “hey, you beat mission 1 faster than your friends you rule” which seems to be the push behind EA’s insistence that you must launch Origin, then Internet Explorer and then finally the semi-menu of Battlefield 3 which let’s you finally play the game.

Review: PAYDAY: The Heist

PAYDAY The Heist Logo

PAYDAY: The Heist is great for groups of four people looking for a challenge and the buy in price is just right for what you get, basically splitting $60 four ways. The game has great music (so good it has six pages on the steam forum asking for it to be released for purchase and we agree), good sound, decent graphics but the clear draw here is the white knuckled experience from the brutally fast and tense action that really shines. If you don’t have a group of three friends the game can go from great to ok to horrible pretty fast, the A.I. difficulty ramp is crazy hard until you slowly level your character and the lack of a mute or push to talk button can ruin even the best 3 man plans when the fourth guy disrupts everything. The missions will get repetitive if you are the type to try and level straight to lvl145 but taken in small group sessions they hold up fine and remain a blast. It’s almost the perfect carrot on a stick game to keep you coming back again and again. Those itching for more content should know that Overkill has already said they are taking suggestions for more heist levels so be on the lookout for DLC.

Review: Serious Sam: Double D (PC)

Serious Sam Double D

We played Serious Sam: Double D on PC from Steam and boy did it sure bring back sweet, sweet memories of Contra. While the game has a bite sized price, $7.99, I think it packs more than enough action and fun than some other $9.99 and $14.99 games. The art style is fun and cartoony, kind of reminds us of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the audio is good, with a rocking soundtrack to boot and the game invites you to replay it with it’s mix of secrets, achievements and challenges. What more could you ask for?

Ace Combat: Assault Horizons – Weekly Gaming Recap Demo Impressions

Ace Combat: Assault Horizons – Weekly Gaming Recap Demo Impressions

The demo for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon really helped put the game in my watch list. Unlike what everyone feared you can go from third person to first person HUD and still partake in the new dog fighting mode (DFM). On top of that the game is just plain fun but I’m getting ahead of myself. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 October 13th 2011, I would have really liked to see a PC release as well. If you guys have any hesitations about this game you really need to check out the demo as it’s extremely fun. You can continue reading below and also check out our video review.

Review: Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension

Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension

Phineas and Ferb is a fun game for children and adults to play together or your children can play on their own. Also I am convinced this game was made by and for nostalgic people, why you ask? The compare score screen at the end of the stages looks exactly the compare screen for Terminator 2: The Arcade Game, the baseball launcher instantly reminded me of the weapon from Fester’s Quest, the third person levels look like an HD version of Space Harrier and finally the the Doof Cruisers look like the truck from Maximum Overdrive. If you have children who love the show this game is easily a buy, it’s fun, MSRP at $40 and one of the better uses of a TV license in video games. If you are over the age of 18 I doubt this game will be high on your list, but if you love the show and it dips below $30 I wouldn’t see a reason not to pick this up.

Review: Red Faction: Armageddon

Red Faction Armageddon

We think Red Faction: Armageddon is fun, has good graphics, a great destruction engine, great rebuilding mechanic and infestation mode supports lan play. However we felt it did have a few problems, the weapons and enemies feel under powered, your character is practically invincible if you keep your distance, there’s lots of repetitive tasks that require you to walk, the game has a checkpoint save system, the controls can feel sticky or sluggish at times and we never were able to play a full infestation game online and the few people who did play disconnected often leaving us to play solo.
