20XX (PC) Enters Early Access With A Mega Man X Heart And A Roguelike Brain

20XX is an Early Access sidescroller on PC that plays a bit like Mega Man X adds in some roguelike permadeath, throws in a splash of co-op play and tops it all off with a sweet kick of randomly generated levels. Out of 110 current Steam reviews that game is already listed as having a Very Positive rating and the buzz surrounding the game out of PAX East 2015 is more of the same gushingly positive reviews. You could say roguelike sidescrollers are a bit of the norm around Steam but doing one in the style and feel of Mega Man X certainly is a breath of fresh air. 20XX is $11.99 on Steam during its stint in Early Access and then will bump up to $14.99 on release in the future. Be sure to check out the trailer above and bring a friend for some epic sidescrolling action.

For Immediate Release

Batterystaple Games / Firehose Games

We are happy to announce Tuesday, September 15th  20XX is leaving alpha on Steam early access and headed into beta!

20XX is a game built to feel like Mega Man X, but with random levels, random powerups, permanent death, and multiplayer.

The game uses a procedural level generation algorithm that builds levels from a certain number of mechanics at a time; switching rapidly between playing like an action game and playing like a platformer, mixing precision jumping with fevered combat.

Add in permadeath and over 100 powerups to find in between agonizing deaths and you’ve got hours of nail-biting jumping-and-shooting goodness on your hands.

Also, 20XX features full co-op. Play with your buddy on the couch or over the interwebs.

“Despite having never heard of it before PAX, 20XX is now one of my most anticipated games and I cannot wait to get my hands on the final version.”
Paste Magazine – The 10 Best Games We Played at PAX 2015

“20XX is so much like Mega Man X that I’m surprised Capcom hasn’t said anything about it. Actually what Capcom should do is have these developers make Mega Man X games for them”
GamerDad

“The tight controls and fun combat will scratch the itch of anyone who prefers their games a little more 1990s, but the roguelike elements, refined presentation (including the amazing music that recalls the best of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and chaotic randomness do much to set it apart from the recent indie pack, and will help to entice gamers who don’t just want another Mega Man/Contra retread”
gizorama.com

“Keep an eye out for BatteryStaple Games’s 20XX, a co-op rogue-like game that takes cues from the beloved Mega Man X. In it, you explore procedurally generated levels, collect new weapons and abilities, purchase upgrades, and battle mighty robotic bosses.”

History
Indie newcomer  Batterystaple Games started 20XX in the middle of 2013. Chris “CK” King is a huge fan of the Mega Man X series, and wanted to reimagine a modern version of the game with procedural, roguelike gameplay and multiplayer co-op. The result was the (then named) Echoes of Eridu, which had a successful Kickstarter campaign in May 2014 thanks to 572 amazing fans. After renaming the game 20XX, CK joined the Fire Hose Games accelerator program in late 2014, and is now on track to launch in 2015!
