Xeno Galaxies Kickstarter Be Your Own Privateer

First off Xeno Galaxies gets my vote for looking most like an early 90’s CGI film, either something on late at night or a clip during a Beyond The Minds Eye collection, which is awesome! I swear all they need is Tia Carrere and Corey Feldman for some FMV and we’re all set.

Anyway back to the real Kickstarter, Xeno Galaxies combines space exploration, player creation and first person shooting. You’ll fly your ship through the galaxy and when you find a derelict ship you can dock and see if there’s some cargo that’s useful. However there could also be hostile enemies aboard and you might have to fight you way out.

In a way its like a more modern Privateer, you can take missions from terminals, choose your own routes, there’s a market to trade cargo, objects are destructible, scour a planets surface for minerals, build an outpost and you can also create space stations, ships, mining facilities, etc and then share the blueprints online.

Xeno Galaxies has 28 days left on Kickstarter and they are looking to raise $45,000. $15 CAD gets you a copy of the game for PC, Mac or Linux and Neovariance Games is also looking for votes on Steam Greenlight. Be sure to check out the other gameplay footage on their YouTube page here.

Xeno Galaxies – Ambitious Indie Game: Space Trader, FPS and Player made content


Primary focus: FPS gameplay and dynamic quests. Not an empty sandbox with nothing to do.

A PC/Mac/Linux game done by a professional software consultant with 13 years of business experience and 2 years of game industry experience.

The developer just decided to go full time on it, doing a Kickstarter campaign of 45K to complement his own funding. He is not doing everything by himself but using specialized contractors. And he’s writing his own press release 😉

The game:

  • It’s a space trader where you can not only roam space for acquiring and mining resources to trade, but build your own ships, stations, factories and planetary outposts with an in-game blueprint designer.
  • The game dynamically spawns some of these player made elements, mixed with procedural content like planets and asteroid fields.
  • You can go on foot for some FPS action inside the ships and space stations – with light role play elements.
  • And you land on planets, with a variety of procedural high detail smooth terrains that you can mine and build on.
  • All this with random encounters and dynamic events (Ship full of insectoids, rogue AI that turns turrets on you, reactor going critical …)
